Wolfgang Van Halen Discusses How Covid Sidelines Farewell Tour Plans

Wolfgang Van Halen recently opened up about how the Covid-19 pandemic prevented his father and legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen from a final farewell trek with his band Van Halen.

In a new interview with The Washington Post, the Mammoth WVH frontman revealed that in 2019, he told his father about a master plan of a Van Halen tour that included original singer David Lee Roth, his replacement, Sammy Hagar, and original bassist Michael Anthony, who was replaced by Wolfgang. To top it all off, Mammoth WVH to be the opening act for Van Halen.

“The way we figured it, if I were to open for Van Halen, he would come out and play a solo for a song,” Wolfgang said. “That would have been the end-all dream.

“I will forever loathe covid and how it was handled,” he added, “because they stole that moment from me.”

A lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic halted live music and programs in March 2020. Eddie Van Halen, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in late 2017, died of cancer at age 65 in October 2020.

Meanwhile, Wolfgang is set to release his next album Mammoth WVH on June 11 via EX1 Records/ Explorer1 Music Group. He has already released “Feel,” “You’re to Blame,” “Don’t Back Down,” “Think It Over,” and “Distance” from the album.
