Rush’s Alex Lifeson Working On New Song With Kirk Hammett, Tom Morello

Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson recently revealed that he has worked with Metallica‘s Kirk Hammet and Rage Against the Machine‘s Tom Morello on a new song.

Lifeson, who told Ultimate Classic Rock that the song is for a project Morello is working on, added, “He’s working with a bunch of different musicians. I don’t really know what the future holds for it, but I really loved doing it. I’m hoping that [Morello] might have something else to send along.”

“Morello sent a couple of different riffs to him as a starting point, saying ‘Put whatever you want on it – the more the merrier,’” Lifeson recalled. “He was going to give it to Kirk Hammett, and Kirk was going to do the same thing.”

“Being the contrarian, I did all of [these other styles], not just heavy rock stuff,” he added. “We were all talking to each other while we were doing it, and we just had such a riot. I sent my stuff in and it went to Kirk then, and he sent his stuff in.”

Lifeson recently heard an early mix of the track and was thrilled with the result. He thinks fans will dig it, too.

“It’s really some fun music,” he notes. “It’s so Tom Morello, his parts. I just smiled the whole way through listening to it. I thought it was really, really cool the way it turned out.”

The release date of the track is not known as yet.
