John Paul Jones has re-recorded the 1971 Led Zeppelin classic “When The Levee Breaks” with 17 musicians from around the world as part of Playing for Change’s Song Around the World initiative.

The artists featured in the music video include guitarist Derek Trucks, drummer Stephen Perkins, harmonica player Ben Lee, singer Susan Tedeschi, singer Elle Márjá Eira, slide guitarist Keith Secola and vocalist Mihirangi.

All proceeds from the song will benefit various environmental organizations and philanthropic efforts.

“When the Levee Breaks,” a song from Led Zeppelin’s fourth album, was written based on the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927.

Speaking about the re-recorded version, Jones said, “It seems that little has changed since 1927, or even 2005 with [Hurricane] Katrina,” adding, “It’s still a really powerful track, both musically and lyrically.”

“Looking at ‘When The Levee Breaks’ through the lens of producing a song to raise awareness for key environmental organizations truly felt like a plea for climate justice,” said Sebastian Robertson, co-producer of the music video.

“The wailing guitars, harmonica, and vocals all in harmony for Mother Earth,” added Sebastian, who is the son of The Band‘s lead guitarist Robbie Robertson.
