KOOL Cause of the Month: September

About The Alzheimer's Association

The Alzheimer’s Association Colorado Chapter is the premier source of information and support for the more than 65,000 Coloradoans with Alzheimer’s disease, their families and caregivers.  Through its statewide network of offices, the Alzheimer’s Association offers education, counseling, support groups and a 24-hour Helpline at no cost to families thanks to the generosity of our donors and corporate sponsors. In addition, contributions help fund advancements in research to prevent, treat and eventually conquer this disease.

The Alzheimer’s Association advocates for those living with Alzheimer’s and their families on related legislative issues, and with health and long-term care providers. In 2008, Governor Ritter passed legislation to create a statewide plan for Alzheimer’s disease. The Alzheimer’s Coordinating Council began meeting this past winter to review the impact of this disease on our state and make recommendations for the coordination of services and programs throughout Colorado. The Council will publish a report within 18 months.

Volunteers allow the Alzheimer’s Association to serve every county in the state through its seven regional offices. Support groups and educational programs are available at no cost and are facilitated or presented in many cases by trained volunteers. Our 24-hour Helpline is also staffed by trained volunteer counselors who provide information, resources, referral lists and often simply lend a compassionate ear just when it’s needed most.

This year the Alzheimer’s Association has introduced a new program for businesses called the Alzheimer’s Early Detection Alliance. The program is particularly important as employers experience the financial impact of absenteeism, medical leave, decreased productivity and having to replace workers all due to the stress and demands of caregiving for a family member with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. This free membership program offers workshops, newsletter articles, access to AsktheExpert.com and other tools to assist employees who are dealing with their not only their own concerns about memory loss but those of a loved one.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the very first Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk taking place in the U.S. as well as in Colorado. To commemorate this special year we’ve designed a unique logo that will be featured on Memory Walk T-shirts. Participants raising $100 or more will receive this one of a kind T-shirt.

KOOL105 Partners with the Daniels Fund to Honor Nonprofits

KOOL 105 is proud to partner with the Daniels Fund for our Cause of the Month.  Philanthropist Bill Daniels loved American and believed each of us has a duty to offer help and hope to others.  He established the Daniels Fund in 1997 to support programs that encourage personal responsibility and achievement.  When Bill died in the year 2000, the bulk of his estate transferred to Daniels Fund, making it the largest foundation in the Rocky Mountain Region at that time.

Bill Daniels directed that the Daniels Fund, a private foundation, concentrate its giving in two primary areas:  college scholarships and grants to community nonprofits.  The grants program is designed to help the homeless, youth, elderly, and individuals with physical or developmental disabilities, as well as those struggling with substance abuse.
