KOOL Cause of the Month: October 2007

For 20 years, KOOL 105 has been your home for Mile High Hits.  You've let us in to your home and your hearts. You've also supported KOOL and many charitable causes, helping people all over Denver, and for that we thank you!  But our work isn't done yet.  This web page is a chance for us to increase public awareness of some of our favorite causes and charities around the metro area.  So if you have a few extra hours or a few extra dollars and are looking to donate to a reputable charity, you can count on KOOL's Cause of the Month to keep you up to date. Thanks for caring, Denver!

Mount St. Vincent's Home

For 125 years, caring for children in need has been the mission of the Mount St. Vincent's Home. More than 18,000 children have received loving care and attention through this incredible organization that was founded as an orphanage and now serves children with emotional and behavioral disorders. The program offers the following services:

  • Counseling programs address problems the child is having at school and in the family.
  • Intervention programs are offered for victims of abuse, neglect, and violent trauma.
  • Parental support programs, training, and classes build child care skills and address child development issues.
  • Mount Saint Vincent School and Preschool provide special and therapeutic education in classes with structured, supportive, small group, mixed grade environments in which children can best learn.  The preschool is a combined traditional and therapeutic program.
  • When possible, we provide foster care services and home-based family programming.
  • The average stay at Mount Saint Vincent is 320 days.
  • A new program, The Aspen House, is open for eight children last fall.  These children live in a freer environment than the residential program while they wait for foster or adoptive home placement or until they can return to their own homes.
  • Mount Saint Vincent's ultimate goal is to provide a continuum of support services and a permanent, stable home for each child.

KOOL Cause of the Month Partners with the Daniels Fund:

KOOL 105 is proud to partner with the Daniels Fund for Cause of the Month.  Philanthropist Bill Daniels loved America and believed each of us has a duty to offer help and hope to others. He established the Daniels Fund in 1997 to support programs that encourage personal responsibility and achievement.  When Bill died in the year 2000, the bulk of his estate transferred to Daniels Fund, making it the largest foundation in the Rocky Mountain Region.

In the Fund's articles of incorporation, Bill directed the foundation to concentrate its efforts in two primary areas: College Scholarships and Community Support, including programs designed to help the homeless, physically handicapped and elderly individuals, as well as those suffering from substance abuse and mental handicaps.
