Casey Kasem

Sundays on KOOL are dedicated to the magic and the music of the 1970s  -- so much so that we call every Sunday  “’70s Sunday” on KOOL 105! Nobody is more synonymous with the music and memories of the ‘70s on the radio than Casey Kasem. Every Sunday morning on KOOL, “’70s Sundays” starts with a re-broadcast of an original American Top 40 Countdown from 9 a.m. - 12 n and again from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. hosted by Casey, airing just as it did back in the day.

Casey Kasem’s friendly, ‘crackling’ voice style has taken him to the top of his profession.  The man, who once dreamed of being a baseball player but ended up as a radio sports announcer in high school, has since become the youngest member ever inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters’ Radio Hall of Fame.  He has his own star on Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame.  In 1997, Billboard Magazine honored him with its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award.  Casey was honored with the first “Radio Icon” award at the Radio Music Awards in 2003.

Throughout his career, Casey has also worked as a character actor in films and TV shows, as well as countless voice-over commercials and Saturday morning cartoon shows. He has done hundreds of episodes in series like Scooby Doo, Super Friends, Mister Magoo and Transformers, as well as ‘letters’ and ‘numbers’ on Sesame Street.

Through the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s, Casey continued acting in films and TV, guest-starring on series from Charlie’s Angels, Quincy and Fantasy Island to ALF, Amen and Saved by the Bell.  Meanwhile, his TV hosting included not only the annual American Video Awards, but also – for a dozen years, into the ‘90s – the syndicated weekly musical countdown, America’s Top 10.  Plus, for 10 years he hosted the national year-end wrap-ups on cable, Nick at Nite’s Classic TV.

Recently, the original American Top 40 Countdowns from the 1970s were pulled out of the AT 40 vaults and KOOL 105 is proud to air them every “’70s Sunday” morning from 9a-12n. You hear the actual countdowns, just as they aired in the 1970s here in Denver. Casey is one of the true legends and we are proud to have him on the KOOL 105 airstaff! Check out the countdown this week and see if you don’t flash back to the 1970s with KOOL 105!
